FAQs
You Ask - I Answer
How long are sessions?
- 50 minutes
What should I expect?
In the first session, we'll get to know one another and start to get a picture of what you want to address, what goals you have, and introducing you to the therapy. In following sessions, we work together to help you work with your body in the places you struggle/ giving you the opportunity to work through them and progress towards meeting your goals.
Is what I say in counseling confidential?
Everything shared in the counseling space is kept confidential, with the exception of 3 cases. The limitations of confidentiality are the following:
If I determine you are a danger to yourself, I will contact emergency services.
If I suspect child abuse/neglect or elder abuse/neglect, I am mandated by law to report any suspicion to CPS (Child Protective Services) and potentially contact emergency services.
If you're involved in a current court case and my records are mandated. I am required by law to comply with court-ordered requests for records.
How long should I be in counseling?
How long you come to counseling is completely up to you. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to mental health and wellness. Each person comes in with their unique experiences and moves at their own pace. You come to counseling for as long as you find it helpful. When you get to a point of meeting your goals or feel confident in managing life without a helping hand, then it may be time to either pause or end the counseling relationship.
As a recommendation, somatic therapy can take some getting used to and can feel slow at first. If you feel that this work could benefit you and you feel ready to take the steps, I suggest giving the therapy at least 6 months to start noticing a difference.
How often would we meet?
How often we meet is your decision. I offer weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly sessions. I would recommend weekly or bi-weekly for beginning counseling, then monthly check-ins towards the end of the counseling relationship.
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
I offer sliding scale rates on a limited case-by-case basis. For more information, please submit a contact form.
